Resting Place
I spent the second half of 1974 travelling and working in North America, beginning with a "working exhibition" at the Vehicule Gallery, Montreal, Canada. As well as displaying drawings, paintings and photographic works I worked for one week in the gallery on a large construction using natural and discarded materials found in the surrounding environment (stones, paper, bones, seeds, plants, soil and branches). Visitors to the gallery could view and participate indirectly in the development of the work through discussion with me - often making suggestions and interposing their interpretations and ideas into my working process. After a trip east-west across Canada I produced another working exhibition at Vancouver City Art Gallery. After travelling south through the USA and Mexico my wife and I returned to the UK in December. Resting Place is a construction from the exhibition at Vehicule Gallery.
